UnMasked: We all Breathe – A Film Exploring the Dark Truth Behind MDR-TB

November 20, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Free

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has been in the headlines lately, but drug-resistant tuberculosis – the leading contributor to AMR-related deaths and the only airborne drug-resistant epidemic –is typically missing from these discussions. DR-TB takes a major toll on people, families and communities, as well as on the global economy (~$20 billion/year), and also poses a major threat to global health security. In fact, only one in three cases of DR-TB are diagnosed – and every untreated person can infect up to 15 additional people over the course of a year.

UnMasked helps to shed light on this all-too-overlooked disease. Following the screening, a panel of experts including Alan Tennenberg, Chief Medical Officer, Global Public Health, Johnson & Johnson, and Sally Allain, Head, JLABS @ Washington, DC, will join other thought leaders to discuss the importance of innovation – both in the lab and on the ground in high-burden countries – to address 21st century global health security threats.
