SUMMARY:Agile vs. Traditional: Evolving Project Management Practices for the 21st Century
DESCRIPTION:The Frederick National Laboratory in partnership with the Hood College Graduate School is pleased to offer an in-person project management seminar and networking event. \nSeminar: Agile Project Management generally refers to project management frameworks and practices that adhere to a set of Agile values and principles. Agile Project Management can be a powerful addition to your Project Management toolbox when applied in the right context. \nThis presentation will compare and contrast Agile Project Management with more traditional\, plan-driven Project Management practices by looking at the evolution of the Project Management domain throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. We will explore how the need for Agile practices arose\, the contexts in which Agile practices are most applicable\, and some basic Agile practices (based on the Scrum framework) that you can add to your project management toolbox. By the end of this presentation\, you will have a better understanding of the differences between plan-driven and Agile Project Management practices\, how to select the best practices and tools from your toolbox for managing your project\, and some next steps you can take along your Agile Project Management journey. \nPMI PDUs: 1.0 \nLocation: Rosenstock Hall\, Hood College \nHeavy hors d’oeuvres will be served. \nSpeaker: Brian Crilly received his Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from Hood College in 2020 and was the 2021 recipient of the Kathleen Bands Outstanding Doctoral Student Award. Crilly is currently the Director of Systems and Software Engineering at Thales Defense & Security\, Inc.\, developing secure wireless communications equipment for military and public safety use. Prior to attending Hood College\, Crilly received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland\, College Park\, and later earned his MBA degree at Mount St. Mary’s University. He holds several certifications from the Project Management Institute (PMI)\, including the Project Management Professional (PMP)\, Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)\, and Disciplined Agile Senior Scrum Master (DASSM) certifications.
